Meeting with Rail Bosses

On Monday 9th February we held a meeting with Mr Neville, the Customer Service Manager for National Express. He reports directly to the Head of Operations for Eastern Region who regretfully was caught up in the snow and could not join the meeting.

We focused on the need for some improvements to the rail service, in particular the following two priorities;

The re-instatement of the 8.08 from

  • Turkey Street
    , (8.12 from Southbury) as a semi fast service. We again pointed out that this would ease over crowding on the previous service.
  • We did request an increase in carriages for the 7.38 service.

As commuters we know that 2 trains an hour with only four carriage trains and the loss of the semi-fast service into and out of London Liverpool Street presents commuters on this line with increasing problems of late arrival at work and over crowding. This point was well made we assure you!

In fairness, Mr Neville listened to what we had to say and he has agreed to a further meeting shortly to report progress. This will probably coincide with their discussions on the new seasonal time table plans. There is no doubt that he showed a constructive approach and understanding of the problems we face.

In the meantime we can let you know that National Express has put in its bid to the government for extra carriages. We know we will have a tough job convincing National Express that if they do get new rolling stock it is time we got our fair share of it to ease the problems on this line. Hopefully some of the extra carriages will arrive on our lines in Enfield.

It is clear from the overcrowding problems on all three routes into an out of London Liverpool Street (EnfieldTown, Cheshunt via Southbury, Cheshunt via Brimsdown) that extra carriages are needed on all these lines.  We will be monitoring very carefully the allocation of the extra carriages.

We are hopeful that we can work with National Express to achieve our aims on behalf of the passengers.  However, input from you is imperative as it is your comments which make the difference.

We are aiming to be able to send further updates to commuters via email.  Please let us have your email addresses. Please also c.c. us on any emails you send to National Express.

We update the website regularly so please do visit this site and let us have your comments and suggestions regarding the rail service.
